GUAM FUJICLEAN “ISLAND TEST” HISTORY

October 2010 - CGSS visited FujiClean Japan to conduct a field study of the Japanese Onsite Waste Water Treatment System (Johkasou).

December 2010 - CGSS installed the FujiClean OWTS at the Yigo project site. The system was studied, tested and monitored in partnership with the Guam Water and Environmental Research Institute (WERI), led by Dr. Joseph Rouse. The Johkasou system successfully operated through the island power outages, typhoons, earthquakes, and all the Guam tropical paradise presented it with, til the present - over 14 years.

July 18, 2024 - Guam Public Law 37-105 was enacted, mandating the use of OWTS to improve onsite residential sewage treatment options on properties over the Ground Water Protection Zone (GPZ).

April 13, 2025 - Guam Public Law 38-7 was passed, allowing the construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in residential zones. In specific cases, OWTS are required for these developments.
